My name is Jo. I can’t abide bullshit. I am a skeptic. An atheist. I vaccinate. I eat GMO with gusto. Climate change is real. Because science. I believe his world needs more questioning, critical thinking, reason, empathy and kindness, before it is all too late. I am a writer and entrepreneur. My family and I like to travel, a lot. We are now just about to set sail, for real, to travel the world once again.
It took me long enough, forty years to be precise, to really, deeply know that I am free to do and say and think what I want. Of course, we can all do what we want in theory, but to really do it, and know it, and enjoy it, is an entirely different matter. Once that was figured out, my husband and I decided to say good bye to a lot of things that most of us assume are musts or things that per default are considered integral to a good life. We simply decided to not accept any musts or anything that we do not want as part of our lives and in place spend time as a family, spend time doing what gives us all joy, spend time not simply existing and accepting the status quo. My family and I travel a lot, we move a lot, we don’t hold jobs per se, we have a couple of businesses so we do work quite a bit, but we mainly read a lot, think a lot, play a lot, eat a lot and hang out a lot.
We don’t usually go to meetings, we don’t have hectic schedules, we do not stress in the mornings, we take our time, we don’t do much of anything that is not beneficial, useful, fun or otherwise necessary for our well being or for the well being of those we love and care for. Of course some things we don’t really want to do, but they may help others so we do them. We are not utterly selfish.
The excess, the unnecessary are all gone from our lives or in the process of being removed. We don’t get up every morning, rush to get ready and squeeze ourselves into an overcrowded subway to stress getting our kids to daycare and ourselves to an office job only to do the same in reverse eight hours later. We have tried it. It wasn’t for us. We did not find meaning or joy in that. Knowing, as we do now, that we really can do what ever we want, and live our life as we want to live it, where we want to live it, we are doing it. It took quite a bit altering set ways of thinking, but getting to this point was half the fun. To be honest, getting to this point, achieving this way of life has been hard as hell, but the rewards are great.
This blog is about life; life as we know it, about thinking, about our journey, our travels, our life, our businesses and about all that we have learned getting to this point. It is also about values, thoughts and ideas that I believe improve life or just random observations, things that surprise me, such as people. This blog is also about all we have elected not to do or worry or fret about. This blog is about how we seize the day, and say each and every day, carpe fucking diem, with bravado and joy, as best as we can. (Well no, we really don’t, that would be pretentious as hell).
Not everyone wants the same things in life. Finding out what you want isn’t easy. Questioning and changing your life, and getting unstuck, is even harder. Getting some help in figuring out what you want and how to get there isn’t all bad. I hope I can help in some tiny way.
I would love to hear from you, so please do email or leave a comment!
